Carnival Aura/A Foot is the 2nd disc from the original self-released HURSTMUSIC 3cd set distributed at the opening of Hurst’s MFA exhibition at Pratt Institute in 2001. The lion’s share of this album was recorded in his Scott’s Run, WV trailer home studio 97’-98’ then topped off with home recordings made in Brooklyn, NY shortly thereafter. The title of the album was derived from a “cut-up” experiment using The New York Post newspaper in the tradition of William Burroughs, and it reflects how the album sounds with bizarre accuracy. High points include Cross Country Theme Song (dedicated to the painter Andy Piedilato), Over, Coulda Gone Anywhere and Droplets. Incorrigible and indispensable; this is the sound of the abandoned brain sliding down the stairwell, smoldering yet wet to the touch.
