about

A pulsating clutch of barbed wire kiss-offs that neatly gathers together essential rarities along with some brand new roasters compiled specifically to induce blushes, crushes and a thimble in yer cymbal. Blasts out of the gates with the 31 second Play Victim, which includes the line; “Priest is lying speechless on the floor..." (giving an indication of where this party is headed). Next up is the Stooges' Shake Appeal meets Ministry bleeder Lonely Hunter -(originally included on the Prison Is An Angry Father comp). Status Friction is a kind of deranged stepchild of Mick & Keef, injected with a lethal dose of astronaut-grade pathogens sourced from a witch doctor in Bamako. The timeless Down & Pray may be Hurst's finest hour; serpent tempting dog barkin’ preachin' blues mania delivered with feverish, knee-wobbling conviction. Nails In My Coffin continues the assault with some Blue Cheer inspired stabs and struts (guitar here courtesy of Hurst's ex-Info Nympho cohort Dan Joy) that hits where it hurts. Side 1 concludes with the obscuro gem Meta Girl which originally showed up on Hurst's Motion Pix Vol.1 DVD. The line, “I met a girl drinking vodka with cranberry….threw me in the cupboard and scratched me in the pantry” is worth the price of admission or at least an admission of guilt. Side 2 swings for the back half with Nature’s Brace, a lyric-less militant scorcher that leaves no sprig unpruned and no fig nonplussed. This is another shard from the Motion Pix Vol. 1 DVD as is the following track, Beat It With A Stick. Next comes the excoriating trash/blast pleas of Connect Me and concludes finally with Lady Leslie, a stomped out masterclass in garage reared-surrealism that subconsciously enrobes Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain within the meshy folds of an Andre Breton poem recited by Bo Diddley’s nutritionist.
